In a bid to reduce the incessant collapse of buildings and promote acceptable building standards through eradication of quackery, the Building Collapse Prevention Guild, Amuwo Odofin Cell, has called on stakeholders to advocate for legislation that will ensure that government  implement laws and regulations on building control.

The Amuwo Odofin Cell Coordinator, Architect Augustine Otuoke, who spoke at the Stakeholders forum  held at Carat Hotels and Suites, Lagos said that while the guild is advocating for bills that will encourage mortgage system that will ease the burden of  owning a house, it will embark on awareness campaign to sensitize the public on the importance of building control to prevent further building collapse.

According to him, “the objectives of the Building Collapse Prevention Guild is to bring together professionals to enlighten construction workers and equip them for betterment of the  industry; to promote and institute neighborhood alerts on poor construction works and buildings showing signs of structural failure; to advocate for importance of subsoil investigations through the publication of materials and journals among others.”

Also speaking at the event, the Vice Chairman, Lagos State Chapter, Architect Femi Shoduke  said that the guild will promote synergy, inter-working relationships among it’s professionals and discourage segregation.

While addressing the newsmen,  Shoduke  said that the guild will contribute to the development of students in technical colleges and higher institutions of learning that offer related courses.
