LAGOS—Proceedings at  the Lagos High Court in Igbosere were yesterday stalled due to power failure in the premises, as lawyers who had hoped to progress with their cases left in disappointment.

Vanguard gathered that there was no power supply from the national grid and the generating set serving the complex was said to have crashed after working for a long time, throwing the courts into darkness.
The development forced lawyers to vacate the courts in anger.

Judges who had already arrived for the day’s business, could not sit as the courtrooms were either too dark or too hot to endure the rigours of trial.
However, Court 47, which sat despite the power failure, did so with the both doors of the facility wide open.
Although some of the judges promised to sit at 12 noon, if the power-generating set was fixed, some litigants and others who waited anticipating a restoration of power, later left disappointed.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo, who walked into the open court un-robed, said she was only willing to strain her eyes in her dark courtroom to take just applications for 30 minutes.
However, judges on one of the wings of the High Court complex, including Justices Olabisi Akinlade and Oyebanji, sat as there was power on the arm to light up the courtrooms and power their appliances.
