FEDERAL pensioners in Imo State have called on the Federal Government to pay their pension arrears, lamenting that most of them are passing through untold hardship due to the harsh economic situation in the country.

They claimed that many others are facing serious health challenges that demand urgent medical attention, saying, “but no money to attend to their medical needs.”

One of the aggrieved pensioners, Mr. Mark Amaechi, an octogenarian, who retired in 1989 as a headmaster in Imo State Primary Schools, told Vanguard that the Federal Government had been owing pensioners since 2003.

The octogenarian lamented how pensioners who gave their all to the nation could be reduced to paupers while news in the dailies revealed how trillions were being misappropriated by public officers.

According to him: “We are not happy at all. This is 2014 and the last time we got our pension allowance from the Federal Government was in 2003.”
