ADO EKITI—Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State and the Labour Party, LP,  candidate and member of the House of Representatives, Opeyemi Bamidele at different locations in the state yesterday flagged off their gubernatorial campaigns.

Fayemi’s declaration of intention  for a second term, in Ado Ekiti, the state capital,  was witnessed by several dignitaries including fellow governors from the All Progressives Congress, APC, states including Rochas Okorocha (Imo); Murtala Nyako (Adamawa); Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto); AbdulAziz Yari Abubakar (Zamfara); Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo); Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun); Rauf Aregbesola (Osun); and Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara), who was represented by his deputy, Peter Kishra.

Bamidele was, however, at Ido Ekiti where he kick-started his gubernatorial campaign, boasting to unseat Fayemi in the June 21 governorship election.
He claimed that half of the members of Fayemi’s cabinet were not only supporting him ,but were assisting him financially.

Bamidele said he remained more acceptable to APC members in the state based on how he had built the party and assisted many others while still member of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN that metamorphosed into APC.

He equally faulted governor Fayemi for allegedly reneging on his promise that the campaign for the election would be issue based.

According to him; “I heard them on radio calling me names and doing the same for the people in the PDP. For us we are not going to do that. We are going to tell the people what we have in store for them. Our mission is to rescue the state from bad governance and to unite all. Basic necessities of life will be provided and a new dawn will begin in the state.”

Among LP leaders present at the rally were the Deputy National Chairman, Hon. Joseph Akinlaja, the State Chairman , Akin Omole and Prince Akin Olayisade.

Rolling out his achievements in infrastructure, social welfare, education, among others, Fayemi, at a rally at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado-Ekiti, also pledged to work harder to better the lives of Ekiti people and ensure a better transformation of the state if re-elected in the June 21 governorship election.

Other guests who appeared at the rally to drum support for Fayemi are former Borno State Governor Ali Modu Sheriff, former Ekiti state governor and APC National Vice Chairman, South West, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, APC National Women Leader, Sharon Ikeazor, Senator Ajayi Boroffice and Iyaloja General, Mrs. Folashade Tinubu-Ojo.

“The advantage I have is that I am running on record and there are people who will promise heaven and earth but I can tell you what I have done in education and how I have banished poverty among our elderly,” the governor said.
