Orji’s wife settles medical bills of stranded patients at ABSUTH

By ANAYO OKOLI

UMUAHIA — Wife of Abia State governor, Lady Mercy Orji, has rescued patients held by Abia State University Teaching Hospital, ABSUTH, Aba, for their inability to settle medicals bills after being discharged.

Mrs. Orji paid their medical bills amounting to over N750,000.

The patients had been held by the hospital management and were stopped from going home after being discharged until they paid their medical bills.

Mrs. Orji ran into the stranded patients when she was on a sympathy visit to the hospital to see some pupils of a private school in Aba who were undergoing treatment from injuries sustained when a truck ran into their school, killing three pupils.

While in the hospital, Mrs. Orji was besieged by the helpless patients who narrated their stories and appealed for assistance to offset their medical bills to enable them return home, having been discharged by the hospital management.

The patients, mostly accidents victims, told her that they were unable to go home and rejoin their families due to inability to settle their medical bills.

Touched by their pathetic stories, the governor’s wife promptly undertook to pay the bills and urged the hospital management to release the patients.
