YULETIDE: Transport union assures on fair price

BY Austin Ogwuda
CHAIRMAN of Delta State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Mr. Ifeanyi Obi, yesterday, gave assurance that drivers had been instructed not to increase transport fare because of the Christmas rush.

Obi noted that an increase in transportation fare was capable of affecting the fun associated with the yuletide season.
He, however, called for increased patrol by men of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, to control traffic, especially on the Niger Bridge.

Speaking with newsmen in Asaba, Obi said: “We are not going to hike fares.
“We make sure the vehicles are in good shape and also check the tyres of the vehicles everyday because we do not want any vehicle to break down or have accident on the road. Speed will be regulated. They have been well sensitised.”
