Nigeria Football Federation technical director Emmanuel Ikpeme has revealed the national team will be playing the majority of their practice games on home soil as they prepare for the African Nations Championship.
The Super Eagles are currently in a training camp as coach Stephen Keshi looks to trim down his squad ahead of next year’s showpiece tournament, which will be staged in South Africa.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations holders will not be training outside of Nigeria, though, with a series of matches against some of the country’s top-flight teams lined up over the new couple of weeks.
“There won’t be any need for the team to travel out of the country for any training tour rather, it should concentrate in the country with their preparation against a couple of premier league clubs,” Ikpeme told Daily Independent.
“This will afford them an opportunity to build and understand what the coaching crew wants from them before they can now start thinking of a training tour and that is what we have agreed on.”
