DESOPADEC commissioner advocates 50% derivation

Commissioner representing Ethiope East and Ughelli North Local Government Areas on the board of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Chief Ominimini Obiuwevbi, has appealed to the Federal Government to increase  derivation fund to oil producing states from 13 to 50 per cent.

Speaking after his thanksgiving service in Ughelli on his appointment and one year in office, Obiuwevbi blamed the failure to implement certain policies, which would have been more beneficial to the people of oil bearing communities, on the non-implementation of the principles of true federalism.

While noting that the commission was leaving no stone unturned in its pursuit of people-oriented projects, he said the commission, as an interventionist agency, was committed to the development of the oil bearing communities in the state.
He noted that most of the projects he met on ground had been completed and commissioned, while others “are speedily ongoing.”
Obiuwevbi called for true federalism, decrying that the 13 per cent being paid to the oil producing states was not adequate.
