Opposition mounts against Ajimobi’s re-election

By OLA AJAYI

IBADAN — OPPOSITION has continued to mount against the second term bid of Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State as some members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have expressed the fear that the party may lose the state if they give him the second term ticket in 2015.

The aggrieved party members under the aegis of the Reality Forum of Nigeria led by one Elder Jide Ajao warned that as the 2015 elections draw near, the governor may not have enough time to confront his many challenges to contest and win the election.

The group notified the national leadership of the party so that the party would not lose the governorship seat to the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state.

“The leadership of the party should not risk giving Governor Abiola Ajimobi any backing, otherwise, the party will fail in the 2015 elections. Apart from reconciling the factions within the party, he is also required to re-associate himself with the serving senators in his party and also show regards for other chieftains of the party.

“The pattern of his administration from the state down to the local levels has narrowed governance to a one-man show, creating avenue for fraud and cheating,” the group said.

Contrary to public opinion, the aggrieved members of the party, argued that road construction, payment of salaries as at when due, maintenance of education and health sectors with water provisions have no link with developmental programmes.

While advising the governor to concentrate more on governance rather than gallivanting around the globe, they viewed that if he should give more premium to youth empowerment, the chances of the party would be bright at the elections. “All these and others that are not mentioned are test cases for his administration and if proper care is not taken, it may result to the beginning of the end, hence, he finds himself where his predecessors ended”,the group concluded.
