NATIONAL Chairman of the All Progressives Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh, who was elated at the large turn out of party supporters at the flag off of Willy Obiano governorship campaign described the event as ‘Operation Osmosis’ and commended the people of the state for deciding to rally round APGA to ensure that Igbo do not lose their voice in the country.
According to him, the good thing going for APGA is the marvelous work done by Governor Peter Obi, whom he described as the greatest APGA supporter of all time. He said that having done well to ensure peace and prosperity in the state, there is need to elect another APGA governor to continue the good work.
He also said that other candidates in the election have proved unworthy of being governors of Anambra State by “supporting the deportation of Igbo from Lagos” and “proving incapable of managing their businesses.”
His words: Obi needs a worthy successor and we are lucky to have found the right person in Willy Obiano. Our people cannot afford to make the mistake of derailing Obi’s legacies by allowing somebody who does not believe in the people to take over the Government House in Awka. Obi has laid the foundation and we are sure Obiano build skyscrapers on the foundation. If you vote for APGA, you are therefore voting continuity.”
Harvest of defections at APGA flag off
IT was indeed a harvest of decamping for APGA during the flag off of the governorship campaign in Awka. Among those that dumped their former parties for APGA include the former governorship aspirant of LP, Mr. Peter Nwosu.
Nwosu, it would be recalled, fought desperately to dislodge the oil magnet candidate of LP, Chief Ifeanyi Ubah before the primaries and at a point, claimed to be the authentic flag bearer of LP. During the APGA flag off rally in Awka, Nwosu said he had decided to leave LP for APGA with all his supporters because Willy Obiano, according to him, is unarguably the best equipped candidate in the governorship race.
The former LP aspirant also donated 10 buses and one Armada vehicle which he used for his campaign, as well as his campaign office to APGA.
According to him, his decision to pitch tent with APGA was because of what Governor Peter Obi has done in the state since he assumed office in 2006, adding that unlike the situation in the state before then, Obi brought peace and prosperity to Anambra.
Another former governorship aspirant that collapsed his structures into APGA during the flag off was Architect Dan Nwandu of PDP. Before the flag off ceremony, Nwandu had at his Enugwu Ukwu home town, invited, Chief Umeh who received 1500 former members of PDP in the area into APGA.
Similarly, the former state chairman of PDP, Chief Ivy Obi Okoye joined APGA with all his former officers at the state, local government and ward levels.
In his speech at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka during the flag off, Obi Okoye said: “We thank God that we are part of this historic ceremony. Governor Obi has shown that with little resources, a lot could be achieved and that is why we want to be part of this process of continuing the stability in Anambra State.”
Another political party that collapsed its structure to APGA during the flag off was DPP. The party’s former state chairman, Chief Anayo Obiakor said with the development, DPP has joined the campaign train of APGA.
He said: “We decided to join APGA because of the way Obi has transformed the state. I am from Awka and no previous governor had done what Obi has done to transform Awka and we believe that Willy Obiano, as governor, will continue from where Obi will stop.
