Skipper Azubuike Egwuekwe has said Warri Wolves hope to make history on Sunday by winning a first-ever Federation Cup at the expense of Enyimba.

This year’s cup final pits Wolves against two-time winners Enyimba at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.

Super Eagles defender Egwuekwe said Wolves have been training hard for the game and have the quality to go all the way against the more fancied Enyimba.

“We have not won the trophy before, we want to write our names in gold. We have come this far and can’t allow the trophy slip away from us,” Egwuekwe said.

“It is going to be a tough and interesting game, we are battle ready for Enyimba. It is definitely not going to be easy, but we are not scared of them. We want to win the cup and we are set for the clash.”

Warri Wolves will parade Egwuekwe and Oghenekaro Etebor, who has burst on to the scene with his goals in the league, while Enyimba will rely on the goals of Ifeanyi Edeh and Bishop Onyeudo to wreck Wolves.

Wolves defeated Akwa United 2-1, while Enyimba pipped Lobi Stars 1-0 in the semi finals to book their places in the cup final.


Warri Wolves appeals to Uduaghan for supporters

The Chief operating officer of Warri Wolves football club, Kenneth Nwaomucha has appealed to the State Governor Dr.Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan through the Executive Chairman Delta state Sorts Commission. Pinnick Amaju to assist in mobilizing fans and supporters of the club from within and outside the state to attend the finals of the Federation Cup slated for Sunday the 15th of September 2013 at Teslim Balogun Stadium Surulere Lagos State.

Speaking with Sports Journalists in Warri, the former strike ace noted that this is the first time a team from Delta State would reach the finals of the Federation Cup hence he is making this clarion call to the number one citizen of the state. “I am using this medium to appeal to the state Governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan to assist us to mobilize Deltans from within and outside the state to come to Lagos to cheer their darling team to victory”

continuing, he said, “We have been inundated with calls from Deltans living in different parts of the country that they want to storm Lagos for the finals, but they don’t have the means of transportation. The club does not have the capacity to ferry them hence I am making this appeal to his Excellency the Governor of Delta state to provide luxury buses to mobilize our fans and supporters to Lagos.” “I also call on corporate sponsors to assist us in any way they deem fit to boost the team to victory because this is the time we need their support.”

Furthermore on the readiness of the team to lift the Federation Cup against former two times CAF Champions Enyimba football club of Aba, the former Flash Flamingoes FC. Of Benin and NNPC FC. Of Warri striker said “We are fully prepared for this all important finals. The boys are rearing to go for the Cup. I have told them immediately we qualified for the finals that the trophy must come to Warri Wolves and they should go out there and get it for our amiable Governor who is the number one supporter of the club morally and financially for years without a trophy to dedicate to him. This is the only way to compensate him for making football and sports great in Delta state”.

Meanwhile feelers from the camp of Warri Wolves said that the players are in high spirit and just waiting for the day to come. In a phone chat with Monday Osagie, the defence ace said “We are leaving no stone unturned to bring the trophy back to Warri. I will do my best with others in the rear to wade off attackers from our goal line while our attackers will do what they know best which is scoring. We are a high scoring side and we promise the Governor that we won’t let him down”
