Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Senator Gbenga Ashafa, has commended the Federal Government for the approval of N290.745 million for a comprehensive underwater inspection of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

Ashafa, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, also urged the Federal Executive Council FEC, to ensure the prompt mobilization of experts to the site to handle the project with the urgency it deserves in the interest of the general public.

It will be recalled thatSenator Ashafa had in February 2013, led a motion with other 55 senators seeking for an investigation to ascertain the true state of the Third Mainland Bridge which has progressive steel caisson deterioration in about 1,318 Foundation Piles and there was extensive reinforcement bar deterioration in 8 piles.
