Yenagoa — The planned national election of the crisis-torn Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, worldwide, slated for Saturday has been postponed, following the intervention of Ijaw National Congress, INC.

Though no new date has been fixed for the election of the crisis-ridden and factionalised IYC, it was learnt that supporters of some aspirants, who had campaigned round all Ijaw areas to canvass for votes are not happy with the development.

The cancellation of the IYC poll by the parent body of the group, INC, they argued, had rubbished the peace meetings initiated by the Bayelsa State governor, Mr. Seriake Dickson, towards the August 10 poll.

It was learnt that while the Ann Kio-Briggs-led electoral committee had concluded the screening of t62  aspirants, printed ballot papers and the compilation of the list of delegates for the election, the Jeremiah Oba-led electoral committee, had, yesterday, published the list of delegates for the same election slated for weekend, an indication of a divided IYC.

But INC, in a letter, after its meeting with Governor Dickson,  the Chairman and Secretary of the 2013 IYC electoral Committee, Ann Kio Briggs and Akpos Mezeh, the former INC President, Joshua Fumudor and Senator Emmanuel Diffa, said the suspension was due to receipt of several petitions and appeals from members of IYC.
