YENAGOA — The  Bayelsa State Police Command, yesterday, described as untrue, reports that its Commissioner of  Police,  Mr Kings Omire,  has refused to hand over  since his retirement.

Some reports had it that trouble was brewing at the command following the CP’s refusal to hand over in spite of signals from the Force Headquarters, Abuja and the Office of the  Assistant Inspector-Gneral of Police, Zone 5, to that effect.

But  the command in a statement signed by its image maker, Akhigbe Alex, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, maintained that  the CP was still officially in charge as a result of pending administrative issues  which had to be resolved between the command and the Force Headquarters.

It, however, explained that the CP submitted his letter of retirement on April 21, 2013 on account of age, adding that he had also prepared his handover notes which was still awaiting signature.

He said: “It is therefore, unprofessional and morally indefensible that unfounded speculations abound on the pages of some national  dailies that he has refused to hand over after his retirement, without cross checking from the outgoing CP.”

“ He is still in charge of the command because of pending administrative issues between the command and the Force Headquarters that needs to be resolved before he officially proceeds on retirement.”
