NAF probes copter crashes in PH


PORT HARCOURT — A Nigerian Air Force Parade helicopter crashed on the runway of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, yesterday.

The incident came barely 72 hours after a Nigerian Airforce Alpha jet participating in AFISMA operations in Niamey, Niger Republic, crashed, killing the two pilots on board.

But a statement signed by Airforce Deputy Director, Public Relations, Group Capt. Dele Jerry Alonge, said the Mi-24B helicopter was on a training exercise when it made an emergency landing at Nigerian Air Force Base, Port-Harcourt, at about 10:00a.m.

“There was no casualty as all the crew members came out unhurt.

“The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Alex Sabundu Badeh, on receipt of the report, has immediately constituted a team of experts to unravel the circumstances that led to the accident.
