There is a sharp disagreement between the firms contracted to install a scanner at the Seme Border outpost of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS.

Contrary to reports, Managing Director of the company, Global Scansystems Ltd, Mr. Fred Udechukwu, has said the scanners are now fully installed, tested and are working at the Seme border post.

Public Relations Officer of NCS, Mr. Wale Adeniyi, had recently alleged that the firm had defaulted in its obligations to install the scanners at Seme border.

Udechukwu said the new installation at the border brings to eight the number of scanners currently operated by the only indigenous company executing the Federal Government’s ongoing destination inspection contract.

Meantime, Zonal Coordinator of NCS, Zone ‘A’, Lagos, Mr. Victor Gbemudu, has advised the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, LCCI, to promote Made-in-Nigeria goods at the 2013 Lagos International Trade Fair.

Gbemudu, an Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs, gave the advice in an interview with newsmen yesterday in Lagos.

“We believe so much in trade facilitation. This regime, under the Comptroller- General, Alhaji Abdullahi Dikko, has been canvassing for the patronage of Made-in-Nigeria goods.

“We want to encourage the Lagos Chamber of Commerce to support the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan through the coming trade fair.

“I also encourage the organisers to use the trade fair to create a forum where Made-in-Nigeria goods will be displayed abundantly,’’ he said.
