President of the Cycling Federation of Nigeria, CFN, Alhaji Mohhamed Nur Sheriff has urged the National Sports Commission, NSC to concession the Cycling Velodrome at the Abuja National Stadium so that it could be properly utilised.
The CFN president also frowned at the non release of the Velodrome at the Abuja National Stadium for use by the federation for competitions, stressing that the velodrome which was built in 2003 for the All Africa Games has not been put to use for competitions since it was built by the sports ministry as he frowned at its use for non sports events.
“It is very sad that we cannot use the Velodrome for our competitions but instead it is being rented out for other activities without my knowledge,” he said.
He stressed that the 3,600 seat capacity Velodrome if properly utilised could generate revenue as well as employ a number of Nigerians.
Meanwhile, Alhaji Sheriff disclosed that the third edition of the ECOWAS Cycling tour is scheduled to hold in November this year, adding that it will commence in Lagos, Nigeria and terminate in Senegal.
He said that they are already talking to some corporate organisations like the Dangote Group, Cowbell and Globacom for sponsorship. The competition has been held twice in 2009 and 2011.
