ABUJA – BARELY 53 days to the end of the year, the Senate has approved for the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, a budget sum of N250,857,925,434.00 as 2012 budget.

The approved budget comprised Personal Expenditure of N10,218,484,743; Overhead Expenditure of N7,565,400,131,00; Capital Expenditure (internal) Expenditure of N1,017,825,000, as well as Projects (Development) Expenditure of N232,056,215,560.00.

This is coming when other Ministries, Departments and agencies of government are already appearing before the Senate Committees to defend their 2013 budget estimates.

The approval of the budget followed a report of the Committee on Niger Delta 2012 Budget Proposals by its Chairman, Senator James Manager, PDP, Delta South.

Reacting to the development yesterday, Senate President, David Mark, who described a situation where a parastatal’s budget was approved less than two months to the end of year, was unacceptable. Although the budget was approved, David Mark frowned over perpetual late presentation of budget by the Commission.
