Residents of Ilorin were shocked Wednesday morning when news filtered in that the Waziri of Ilorin and strongman of Kwara state politics, Dr Abubakar Olusola Saraki had passed on.
Ilorin residents had initially taken the news as rumour as the elder states man was always in false rumours that pronounced him dead.
A press statement from the Kwara state government house however, proved the news to be true as a three-day mourning period was declared.
Public buildings and many shops particularly around his Iloffa GRA country home closed immediately together with those at Agbaji compound, Ilorin, his ancestral home to honour the elder statesman.
Mr Ahmed Shuaib, a civil servant in the state said the elder statesman was a gift by almighty Allah not only to Kwara but to Nigeria, stressing that late Saraki will be sorely missed.
Immediately Saraki’s death was confirmed, a mass movement comprising mostly aged and middle aged women and men including thugs thronged his Iloffa GRA home where they used to meet him for his philantropic gestures, this time around, to mourn him.
There was uncontrollable wailing on the street, as many recounted the many deeds they enjoyed from the departed elder statesman
