Ochonma
Highlife, Makossa and Soukous Exponent of the late 80s and 90s, Innocent Chuks Onyekwere Ochonma is set for a full comeback to the Music Scene following a long period of absence from the industry.
Ochonma, as he is popularly called started Music in 1986 and went fully professional in 1996. His songs always carry a significant message the society could relate to and helps to expose certain ills in the society.
The Abia State born crooner caused waves and earned his stripes back in the days as he became popular for hit songs like O Di Giwe and Sofri -Sofri, the Anti- Aids Campaign Tune with which he used to send and spread the message on the dreadfulness of the HIV/AIDS disease to the society.
Ochonma is back with new music coupled with a new style. His first single that will hit the airwaves in matter of days, Got To Be Me is an eclectic R&B song beautifully delivered by the veteran singer. On what informed the new style, Ochonma told revealed that he is only diversifying.
“I’m not abandoning my highlife music but only diversifying to do mainstream music and to also increase my fan base. I want to use this song to attract the attention of the younger generation who are not fortunate to listen to my music years back. It is a process and everything will soon balance”.
The Musician has Three Albums to his Credit which are Afro Highlife released in 1996, Sofri Sofri in 1999 and O Di Giwe in 2001.
He was also nominated for various awards such as the 1999 AMEN Award for Best Culture Music Category, 1999 Fame Music Award For Best Highlife Award and in 1999, The National Career Youths Organization Of Nigeria [NACAYON], University of Lagos Chapter nominated him for The Best Highlife Award Of The Year, an award which he also won.
Ochonma, apart from having a successful career as a Customs Officer since 1991 was also The National Coordinator and President of AIDS, this role he carried out successfully with his Non Governmental Organization [NGO], LIFE CAMP in collaboration with the Society against the Spread of Aids [SASA].
The singer whose love with music as medium of communication, is now fully prepared and is leaving no stone unturned as all is set for his return to the music industry , in no time his singles will be enjoying massive air play with an Album Launch soon on the way.
