The Lagos Boys Hostel of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) came alive last Saturday, May 5, 2012 as the final of this year’s inter-compound soccer competition as well as the final of the eating competition were staged.
The final match of the football event was played between compounds C and A with Compound C emerging as the champions after a hard-fought 2-1 win over their Compound A counterpart.
Compound A opened the scoring few minutes into the first-half of the thrilling encounter, while Compound C’s equalizing goal came from Sideeq Lawal, a 400l Finance student. Bello Abdullah scored the winning goal for the Compound C boys late in the second-half of the game.
The champions made it through to the final with a 3-2 win over Compound A in their first match of the competition, played 2-2 draw with Compound D, defeated Compound E by 1-0, before beating Compound B by the same margin to progress to the final.
Compound A on the other hand, got to the final, losing 2-3 to Compound C in their first game, beat Compound D 1-0, defeated Compound E 2-1 and played 1-1 draw with Compound B. Bello Abdullah in 300l Educational Management was the highest goal scorer of the competition while Sideeq Lawal was voted the Most Valuable Player.
Few minutes after the football match, the final of the eating competition came underway.
The three students that made it to the final were Ayanwale Temitope, Abiola Onasanya and Sesay Femi. They were provided with two big wraps of amala, a plate of ewedu containing two pieces of meat and four sachets of water.
In the end, Ayanwale Temitope (a.k.a Biggy), a 200 level student of Agriculture and Bio-system Engineering emerged winner of the eating competition. Abiola Onasanya would have been the winner, but he vomited after finishing the food.
Speaking to Quadlife after the event, Onasanya said: “It is not a matter of stature, but a matter of what you can take.”
