BENIN—EDO State  chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has promised to reduce the current tax regime in the state by 80 per cent if elected into office.

State chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, made the promise in Benin, yesterday during the defection of over 1,000 Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN and All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, members to PDP.

Besides, Chief Orbih said his party, if elected into office, would reduce school fees at Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, to N18.000.

He said: “We had consulted with tax experts, after which the party was convinced that the tax burden imposed on the people of Edo was unacceptable.

“If elected into office come July 14, one of the first steps that would be taken by the PDP government is to cut tax by 80 per cent and reduce school fees at Ambrose Ali University to N18, 000.

“The ACN government has put a tax burden on the people of Edo, to the extent that ordinary hair dressers and other artisans can no longer operate profitably in the state.”
