Dolphins petitions NPL over Pillars’ Boko Haram threat

The management of Dolphins Football Club of Port Harcourt has called on  the  Nigeria Premier League, NPL and security agencies to look into threats made by Kano Pillars shortly after a League game between both sides in Port Harcourt  last  Sunday.

Dolphins defeated Pillars by a lone goal scored in the 98th minute and spokesman of the team, China Acheru, told Inside Out Premier League that, “ having lost in the 98th of the game , Pilliars coach  Kabiru Baleria went to our ( Dolphins) bench and warned that we  should  not  go to Kano for the reverse fixture or else they (Pillars) will organise  Boko Haram (a violent terrorist group) on them.

“It is indeed, not a joking matter but a costly  statement to make but we are not taking it lightly,” Acheru began.

“I believe that such a statement was said out of frustration, especially as  they felt aggrieved conceding a goal at the last minute of the game, but then,  people should watch what they say.

“In the last two years, we have had people killed, churches blown up and more threats made by the terrorist group, Boko Haram and if a person like  Baleria who played top flight football could  make such statement,  he should be invited by the security agencies for questioning because he must have a link with them.” he insisted

However, Acheru named three Port Harcourt based journalists, Florence Israel of Sporting Life, Carl Orakwue of Cool/ Wazobia FM and Nduka Orjinmo as  witnesses who heard Baleria saying, “Walahi, if you (Dolphin) come to Kano, we will use Boko Haram to blow you up. Don’t even bother coming. We will use them to kill you.”

Dolphins have already written to the Nigeria Premier League intimating them on the threat on their lives and will have to write to the Inspector General of Police to look into the matter.
