BY SYLVESTER NWOBU ALOR
Once upon a time, the Igbo nation was invaded. The Igbos were running helter-skelter for cover.
You Dim Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu came out and fought the invaders. We now know that you fought for Nigerian Unity. Divine reward awaits you in heaven. Adieu.”– Chief S Nwobu Alor
Undoubtedly, the late Dim Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu is dead but his spirit lives on. His spirit lives on in not only Igbo land, Nigeria but the entire world we Ndigbo will live to ever remember the great leader, patriot, visionary, legend and icon.
Ojukwu was not only a crusader of justice, he fought against injustice and the unity of Nigeria especially the Igbos who were treated as strangers in their own father land.
As a God sent leader , the icon and former national leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA used his personal resources to fight against the injustice, marginalisation and massacre of the people from the Igbo nation.
Happily, Ojukwu has been vindicated for what he stood for- unity and justice in the Nigerian nation, hence, President Goodluck Jonathan in his tribute to the great hero said Ojukwu like other heroes in many communities of the world are assigned specific roles which the Eze Igbo Gburugburu perfectly performed in this part of the world.
My advise to Nigerians is that the legacy the great icon of our time should be emulated by Nigerian leaders so that this our great country will be moved forward.
As to the fate of Ndigbo after the death of Ojukwu, I will say that his death will unite the Igbos to continue to fight for their rightful position in not only Nigeria but in the comity of nations
