AGBOR – THE Leadership of Ika South Chapter of National Union of Road Transport workers, NURTW, has distanced itself from the recent violent crisis that rocked Agbor Metropolis in which one person was shot dead.
Branch chairman of the union, Mr Amechi Igumbor, in a statement, yesterday, described reports and insinuations linking the union to the crisis as false, unfounded, baseless and figment of the imagination of the authors.
Igumbor said such reports were not only misleading, outright misrepresentation of facts but a calculated attempt to smear the image of the union, insisting that due to the weighty nature of the allegation, it had become imperative to put the records straight for posterity.
He attributed the crisis that rocked Agbor metropolis on November 22, 2011 to the activities of rival cult groups, which allegedly unleashed terror in the area with at least a member of the rival cult group being killed.
Igumbor explained that media insinuations on the issue were premature and unfair, insisting that jumping into uninformed conclusion and opinion that could not be substantiated was a negation of the principle of fair hearing, more so, when police investigation on the matter was ongoing.
