Gombe gets new Dep Gov

By John Bulus
GOMBE—Baring any last minute changes, a new Deputy Governor of Gombe State will be sworn in today as the State House of Assembly, in an emergency session yesterday, screened and confirmed a former member of the House of Representatives in the Second Republic, Mr. Thaianda Rubainu, 63, as nominee for the office.

The confirmation followed a letter sent to the House by the Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo seeking its approval to appoint a replacement for the former holder of the office, Mr. David Albashi, who died from injuries he sustained from an auto crash early last month.

Describing the personality of the new deputy Governor nominee during his screening on the floor of the House, the member representing Balanga South Constituency where the nominee also hails from, Mr. Solomon Jesima and three other members, Gandhi Yaro, Umaru Baramnubu and Mohammad Azumi said he was a man of integrity and dedicated.

They added that Rubainu has a wealth of experience from his various political undertakings.

The lawmakers expressed optimism that Rubainu would not fail the people in his new assignment.

Similarly, Speaker, Mr. Inuwa Garba, said the nominee “is a kind-hearted man that will accommodate the people.”

Rubanu was born on May 6, 1948 in Nuuwar, Balanga Local Govern-ment of the state and was elected into the House of Represen-tatives in 1983.

He was also the state Co-coordinator of National Poverty Eradication Programme, NAPEP, Chairman, Gombe State Transport Services, before he was appointed Senior Special Assistant to former Governor Danjuma Goje in the last administration.
