Only 2 died in Ogun NURTW clash – Ogun govt

OTA— Ogun State government has denied a report in Thursday’s edition of Vanguard that 20 persons died in last Wednesday’s clash between members of rival factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in Sango-Ota.

Special Assistant to the Governor on Media,  Idowu Sowunmi, in a statement yesterday said: “The figure of 20 casualties resulting from the clash among leaders of the road workers union in Sango-Ota is incorrect and can only create a wrong impression that Ogun is a volatile state.

From all official and unofficial information available to us, only two people died in the fracas, though we agree that it is bad enough for one innocent life to be lost in an unlawful manner.

Ogun State Government is already taking measures to contain the situation in Sango-Ota and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the state.
