Dolphins clinch NPL title

Dolphins of Port Harcourt yesterday emerged champions of the Nigeria Premier League when they defeated Buloka Babes 1-0 in Ilorin.

They displaced rivals Sunshine Stars of Akure who led the table till the final day. Sunshine were eclipsed by Kano Pillars with a 1-0 win in Kano. Dolphins topped the log with 72 points, while Sunshine were rooted to 71 points. Warri Wolves held Niger Tornadoes to 1-1 draw and salvaged a point in Minna to finish third on 66 points.

Kano Pillars are fourth with 65 points. They were hoping that Tornadoes will dismiss Wolves, but the Warri side slipped through the fingers of defeat.

Meanwhile at the bottom of the table it was a sad day for football fans in Jos as two of their teams, JUTH and Plateau United failed to avoid the drop. They were followed into obscurity by Zamfara United and Crown FC of Ogbomosho.
