Boko Haram threatens Nigeria’s unity- LP chieftain

By Victor Ahiuma-Young
WARRI—A chieftain of Labour Party, LP, and candidate for Warri North Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, in the April elections, Mr. Adanse Felix, has warned that ongoing terrorist attack by Islamic sect, Boko Haram, may tear the country apart if security agencies fail to check their activities.

He said: “Nigerians cannot afford to go into a wasteful war in the name of religious fanaticism. What is baffling is that when the Niger Delta insurgency began, the whole world witnessed bombardment of civil communities in the name of fighting militants.

“Several innocent people were murdered by Nigeria’s military forces. Many commu-nities were razed and demolished, though, the Niger Deltans took up arms against the Nigerian state due to perceived marginalisa-tion, underdevelopment, oppression, injustice, hatred of the people of the oil-rich region by the Nigerian state.

“Can the said faceless Islamic sect tell Nigerians their reasons for killing fellow Nigerians?”

Can they and their sponsors openly explain their pains? We from the Niger Delta fought for a reason, yet our people were slaughtered and communities razed down.

“Our question is what stops Nigeria’s military forces from destroying communities in the North?”

Felix, in a statement, yesterday, said attacks targeted at civilians, especially the Christians in the North should stop immediately to allow peaceful coexistence.
