Lagos -Sixteen players are now in camp for the African Beach Volleyball Olympic qualifiers in Abuja this month, Patrick Abobi, the Secretary, Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), said on Tuesday.
Abobi in Lagos that eight players would be selected from those in camp to represent the country at the event holding from Oct. 25 to Oct. 31.
“Only eight of the 16 players will be selected at the end of camp and it will comprise four males and four females,” he said.
The countries for the qualifiers are Nigeria, Congo, Mozambique, Mauritius, Burundi, Ghana, Egypt and Cameroon.
“Three out of the eight countries that will participate in the qualifiers will eventually represent the continent at the London 2012 Olympic Games,’’ he said.
Abobi said the federation would resume its other activities for the last quarter of the year in November after the continental competition.
“We will commence normal activities after the qualifiers and we will be having an open championship to further prepare the players for the Olympics if the country qualifies,” he said.
He expressed confidence that Nigeria would qualify for the Olympics. (NAN)
