Ordinarily, the SIM registration project of the Nigerian Communications Commission, was meant to cut down the rate of mobile related crimes and protect the subscribers from mobile thieves who may steal their phones and use them for unwholesome practices. It was also meant to help in providing adequate data necessary for carrying out other services like number portability.
But the Second National Operator, Globacom, however took extra mile to ensure that its subscribers fully comply to the exercise before the September 28 deadline of the commission.
It introduced a reward for those who would register new and existing lines and trust Nigerian, they fully maximised the opportunity.
This is as the operator has just announced the emergence of about 36 lucky Nigerians on its network who have been drawn to benefit either in the N1million cash reward or a free trip to Manchester, in Uk or to Dubai, in the United Arab Emirate.
According to Globacom, 17 of this subscribers have become instant millionaires having emerged winners in the N1 million cash category while about 19 are to travel between Manchester and Dubai.
Glo however said that these are just the first set of winners in the ongoing Glo SIM registration campaign, meaning that other winners are also to emerge soonest.
The campaign which commenced recently, was aimed at encouraging Glo subscribers to register their old and new SIM cards before the 28 September deadline given by the industry regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
The winners comprise 17 lucky subscribers who have registered their SIMs and are now winners of N1 million each in the daily draws of the promotion; a set of 10 lucky subscribers have won all_expenses paid trips to Dubai, while 9 others won free trips to the UK to watch the home matches of English Premier League champions, Manchester United.
Also, about 100 subscribers eventually won consolation prizes of N20, 000 worth of free airtime.
Speaking on the promo, Globacom’s Group COO, Mohamed Jameel said the winners were picked from Glo subscribers who have complied with NCC regulations and promptly registered their SIMs.
He, therefore, urged all Glo subscribers who are yet to register to do so promptly so that they can also benefit from the bumper rewards being given by Glo to its subscribers.
He said: “We are committed to ensuring that all our subscribers are registered before the September 28 NCC deadline for SIM registration.
We are also committed to the process of ensuring that our valued subscribers who register their SIMs stand a chance of winning prizes which include guaranteed free airtime, N1 million daily and free trips to Manchester and Dubai” .
