Party chieftain, supporters dump PDP for ACN

Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State, weekend, suffered a major setback with the decamping of a member of the National Executive Committee, Mr. Henry Idahagbon and hundreds of his followers to the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Benin City.

Speaking at the event, Idahagbon, a former Commissioner for Lands and Survey in the state, eulogised Governor Adams Oshiomhole for his efforts in transforming Edo State.

He said: “Since you came into office, we saw a determined and consistent attempt by this government to transform the state in all facets of life.  As a member of PDP, I never failed to acknowledge it.  I am happy that some of the people who used to ask me if I was a member of ACN are all in ACN now and are joining to receive me.”

Idahagbon described the administration of Oshiomhole as people-oriented, adding that the government was trying to provide the greatest happiness to the greatest number of people.

He said: “I believe you are bringing happiness to the people in the area of road construction and health management. We are seeing the construction of a new Central Hospital and the schools in Edo State are better than private schools.”

Idahagbon  noted that besides Oshiomhole’s performance, which is the biggest attempt to transform Edo State in the last 12 years, the governor’s one-man one-vote campaign has become a mantra.

He castigated PDP for not adhering to the principle of one-man one-vote.

Idahagbon added: “As progressives, we had admired Oshiomhole from afar, but it has got to a level where we can no longer admire you from afar. We had to come in and join your administration and support it.”
