The Management Board and Board of Trustees of the Network of People of Living with HIV & AIDS in Nigeria (NEPWHAN) has passed a vote of no confidence on the FCT Coordinator of the Network, Mr Peter Ikiti, as a result of his actions said to be capable of causing disunity and disharmony between the Network and its stakeholders.
Disclosing the development in Abuja during a media chat, the Network’s National Coordinator, Mr. Edward Ogenyi, who spoke on behalf of the Management Board, urged the media and general public to ignore further publications from the estranged FCT Coordinator so as not to give wrong signals to their foreign partners.
Ogenyi who regretted that while the rest of the body was trying to foster a lasting relationship with stakeholders, stated that: “only Peter has been advancing an alternative approach which is sabotage and confrontation”, a situation he described as abnormal and capable of tarnishing the country’s image.
Giving a rundown of allegations leveled against the FCT Coordinator, Ogenyi said his (Ikiti) conduct included an attempt to truncate the tenure of erstwhile NEPWHAN coordinator, Dr Pat Matemilola through an NGO called VOHAN in 2006, as well as various anti-group activities that threatened the cordial relationship between NEPWHAN and the Federal Ministry of Health and the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA).
It would be recalled that Ikiti had written to the NACA through his solicitors citing the Freedom of Information Bill, and demanding details of all funds allocated to the Agency, failing which, he threatened to sue the Agency.
