Seven games without losing, home and away. That is an Enyimba record in the CAF Champions League,a feat that former Abia state governor Orji Uzor Kalu wants to be celebrated to keep the trumpets blowing.
The Aba Elephants trampled upon homers Cottonsport of Cameroun in Garoua Sunday stretching their unbeaten run to an all time high after the second match of the Group stage.
”These Boys mean business.Even when Enyimba won the trophy in 2003 and retained it in 2004,they had lost a game out of seven.I am so happy Cottonsport lost at home where the Peoples’ Elephant fell3-0 in 2008,and also lost their goalie to a red card.It is also ironical that like three years ago,Enyimba,Cottonsport and El-Hilal are drawn again in the same group,” Kau said.
What impressed their erstwhile number one fan was the departure from the club’s 2010 Confederation stance where they lost all three away matches in arithmetical height.
”Last year was a disaster.A 2-0 defeat to Academica Soyo in Angola,3-0 to Congo’s Vita and another 4-0 drubbing by Zanaco in the same Zambia where Enyimba got their best away record in 2005 with a 6-1 humiliation of Red Arrows did not speak well of the great Nigerian team.”Kalu pointed out.
He however cautioned Enyimba to work harder towards winning the Cup for a record three times since winning 3-2 away and going seven matches unbeaten did not guarantee a Champion’s League trophy for Nigeria in the past.
”Enyimba must watch it.This is time for more work.In 1980,Insurance beat Gor Mahia of Kenya 3-2 in Nairobi, but lost in the semis.Iwuanyanwu trounced Racing Baffousam ,Cameroun 3-2 in 1994,Chief Adegboye Onigbinde should know better.
They did not get to the last four.Even Rangers went seven matches undefeated in 1978,ask Chief Patrick Ekeji and again in 1982,Emma Okala is my witness, but lost in the semi-finals.So let us learn from the past,”Kalu added.
