Bauchi—Inspector-General of Police Hafiz Ringim has directed the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, to take over the investigations of the recent attacks on banks, police station and other public places in Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State by unknown gunmen.
At a briefing on the spate of attacks, Bauchi State Police Commissioner, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, yesterday, said: “When armed bandits simultaneously invaded a police station and two banks in Gamawa Local Government Area, the policemen attached to the station resisted the robbery attack.
”One of the mobile policemen on duty, who courageously faced the armed robbers was killed, but only two police officers and one civilian sustained injury. They have been treated and discharged from hospital.”
Aduba said the bandits failed in their attempts to rob a first generation bank, but succeeded in robbing a micro-finance bank within the area, where they allegedly carted away about N500,000.
