Flood overruns 9 communities in Ebonyi

ABAKALIKI – NINE communities in Ikwo local government area of Ebonyi State were weekend overrun by flood as residents were seen relocating  to other communities that were affected by the the flood.
  
The communities affected were Ofenakpa, Akafaka, Akahufu, Ofurukpe,Udumowo, Ukwuanyim, Agbanyim, Ugwuoke and Ocho Okwu.

These communities have been described by residents in the area as a rich agricultural
setting.

   Vanguard gathered that the N3.6 billion Oferekpe Water scheme in the area was also overrun by massive flood from the bank of the Cross River that claimed people’s home and farm lands.

  Reacting to the disaster, Commissioner for Grants and Donor Agencies,Elder Fred Udeogu, an indigene of one of the affected communities explained that the overflow had been a usual occurrence in the area but that this month’s flood was too massive, rendering rural dwellers homeless and farm lands rich with rice, yam and cassava destroyed.

   The Commissioner who was in the area to assess the level of damage caused by the flood, noted that “the people had relocated to their maternal homes and other communities on the hilly parts of the area.
