As the Flying Eagles get set to lock horns with Guatemala in their opening game of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia tomorrow, former Super Eagles tactician Sebastian Brodericks has said that the only way the team would succeed is to be dedicated and committed in all their games.
With fear gripping Nigerians over the team’s poor performance at the just concluded Copa de la Republic tournament in Panama City, Broderick said: “fear is not the right word now, the only thing we should be concerned about is the experience acquired after the competition, which is the most important thing,” he said.
“The four Nation’s Cup competition is not not a criteria for winning or losing at the World Cup. The most important question is, were they able to achieve something at the end of the competition? Losing to Portugal 2-0 does not mean they are not good enough for the competition. But If they can learn from the pre-World Cup competition, it will go a long way in the competition.
“And as far as I am concerned, I believe the team have gotten so much experience for the World Cup and I’m optimistic the team will do well in the competition.
Continuing Broderick said: “As an experienced coach, I do not go about in the public telling people what is best for the coach, I believe the coach has come a long way, especially coaching from the Under-17 to the U-20. With these I believe he is capable of handling the team,” he concluded.
