Uduaghan didn’t storm out on lawmakers – DPP legislator

WARRI— MEMBER of the Delta State House of Assembly, representing Uvwie Constituency in the state, Mr  Efe Ofobruku, has clarified circumstances leading to  the purported walk-out of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan at a stage during the inauguration of the fifth session of the House in Asaba and insinuations  that other lawmakers were angry with him for his action.

The Democratic Peoples Party, DPP, lawmaker, who spoke to Vanguard in Effurun, weekend, said he was shocked to read in the newspapers after the inauguration that the governor stormed out of the inauguration and swearing-in of the new Speaker, Mr Victor Ochei, in anger because of disagreement with the Clerk of the House on protocol.

He said, “In my view, the governor’s departure has nothing to do with the proceedings of the House on that day. I think he had other state matters to attend to and left, but not in anger and the lawmakers do not have anything against him at the moment.”

He said the DPP lawmakers should not unnecessarily confront the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP-led government. He added that they should at all times hold the government accountable to the people as far as service to the people was concerned.

According to him, “we are not going there to fight, but you know that even in a family, there are disagreements, so there are bound to be disagreement in the House over issues.”

So I cannot tell you that I am looking forward to a period of smooth relationship between the Governor and the House. In fact, nobody should expect a smooth relationship between us (DPP lawmakers) and the Governor. The reasons for his election are different from the reasons for my election.  I was not elected by the people of Uvwie to do the same business with him.”

“Despite the moves to build bridges of understanding and cooperation,   I know that sometimes in the future, there are going to be clash in the course of our legislative duties, we will disagree, but somehow, I know that we, as lawmakers, will also reach a compromise in the interest of the state,” he added.
