PPMC explosion: Uduaghan counsels against panic buying

WARRI- FOLLOWING the fire explosion that rocked  the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company, PPMC, depot, Warri, on Monday, the Governor of Delta  State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, Wednesday, implored Deltans not to embark on panic buying of fuel as normal operation would  soon be restored.

Uduaghan, who was represented by Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Mr David Ekereokosu, during a visit to the scene of the incident, assured that there was no cause for alarm, saying he had been assured by the management of the company that supply of fuel will not be affected.

The Commissioner, who was conducted round the scene by Engr. Sunday  Edegbo, PPMC, Depot Manager, and Mr. Joseph  Edeamrere, Community Relations Officer, PPMC, said, “we urge all Deltans not to panic over what has happened. For now, nobody can tell what caused the fire incident.

“But investigations are on-going. It will be hasty on the part of anybody to jump to conclusion as to what caused the fire. We want to assure Deltans that very soon, the depot will bounce back to full operation and there should be no panic buying.

“There is sufficient product to go round for all those who want to get the product, so the Delta State government urges all Deltans not to be discouraged about what has happened. Governor Uduaghan is aware of what has happened and that was why he has sent this delegation to PPMC to ascertain what has happened.”

“I have seen the petroleum tankers and the loading arms that were damaged, but the good news is that there will be no scarcity of petroleum products in this environment and so we urge our people not to be involved in panic buying and to keep the peace and not attribute what has happened to any other thing until an official statement is made by the NNPC,” he said yesterday.
