NNPC/Shell Cup semis light up Teslim Balogun

All roads for four Secondary Schools in Nigeria lead to the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos as the semi finals of the All Nigeria Secondary Schools Football Championship tagged NNPC/Shell Cup holds today.

National Co-ordinator of the competition, Shola Akinwale told Vanguard Sports that Government Secondary School, Minjibir, Kano State will battle defending champions, Government Secondary School, Owerri in the first semi final at 2p.m.

After their encounter, two others, Government Day Secondary School, Yola and Ondo State champion school, Brilliant Secondary School, Akure will take to the stage to determine who picks the second final ticket.

The final and third place matches, Akinwale said, will hold at the same Teslim Balogun stadium on Sunday.

Nigerians storm Cameroun

Just as the three cities of Abuja,  Aba and Kano will come alive this week end for continental football wars, the same scenario plays out in the Camerounian Cities of Yaounde, Douala and Garaoua, this time with Nigerians playing active roles.

This morning, Sunshine Stars of Akure will fly out aboard Virgin Nigeria to Douala where they will confront Tiko United on Sunday for the return leg of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The first leg ended 2_0 advantage the Nigerian representatives in Ijebu Ode. The club boss Mike Idoko told journalists in Lagos yesterday that they are going out with confidence thanks to the support of the State Governor his Excellency Governor Mimiko  who has not allowed the team to lack anything.

“ If they think they can intimidate us and overturn our two goal lead just like that, they have another thing coming” He said.

Yesterday, Faith Irabor flew out to Yaounde where she will be the FIFA match commissioner in the Olympic Football Women Qualifier between Cameroun and African women defending champions Equitorial Guinea. The match holds tomorrow.

Linus Mba, CAF referees Committee and FIFA referees advisor also flew out yesterday, destination Garoua where Cotton Sports will host AS Vita Club of RD Congo in the CAF Champion’s league reverse fixture. He is the match commissioner.

When both sides met two weeks ago, the match ended 1-0 advantage Cotton Sports in Lubumbashi.
