Labour Party (LP) governorship running mate in Abia State, Chief Allen Wogu, was said to have escaped death on Thursday after his convoy was attacked by unknown gunmen.
Two of the vehicles in the motorcade including the one conveying Wogu were said to have been hit by bullets.
The attack took place at Osaa-Ukwu in Obingwa Local Government Area of the state at about 3:30 pm.
Wogu, speaking on the incidence said: “While we were at a market square in the area, a motor bike carrying one passenger overtook us and blocked my pilot vehicle.
“The man on the back seat asked us why we were campaigning in the area and suddenly pulled out a gun. “At this point, four other motor bikes joined them and opened fire on us”.
Wogu said that he had reported the matter to the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) based at Mgboko in Obingwa local government area.
When contacted on phone, Mr. Wada Halilu (ASP) and Officer in-charge of Administration at the ATS confirmed the report.
“We have the report but don’t know whether it is true until we conclude investigation.
