Voter registration: Imoke target 1.2 million voters

Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State has predicted that the figure from the on-going voters registration in the state will surpass its previous mark by recording about 1.2 million people.

The Governor, who fielded questions from newsmen after an on the spot assessment of proceedings at various pooling units in Calabar Municipality, Calabar South and Bakassi Local Government Areas at Ikang Old Motor Park Unit, Bakassi Local Government Area, said that the state recorded more than 1million eligible voters two days to the end of the exercise.

Imoke explained that more people turn out for the exercise because of the work free days declared by the state government, saying that Calabar South council exceeded its previous mark while some local government areas recorded over 120 percent mark.

He said that all identified challenges would be  addressed to ensure that INEC records a higher degree of performance in subsequent exercises while the state government was collaborating with the local government areas and the state House of Assembly to ensure that people in difficult terrains and remote areas were mobilized to  exceed its previous mark.

On the challenges faced by the people of Bakassi Local Government Area, Imoke said that government intends to make a case for the returnees and ensure that the area was clearly delineated by INEC.
