Royal father debunks kidnap allegation

By CHIDI NKWOPARA
A prominent traditional ruler in Imo State, Eze Kosmann N. Kanu, has reacted angrily to the rumour making the rounds that he conspired with four others to kidnap one Cyprain Nwankwo.

Eze Kanu, who is the traditional ruler of Iheme-Izuogu autonomous community, also called on the Nigeria Police to painstakingly investigate the allegation with a view to ascertaining the truth of the matter.

It was his considered opinion that linking his name to a crime as serious as kidnapping was an affront on his pedigree, integrity and royal stool.

According to the royal father, a complaint was leveled against Mr. Nwankwo by one Chika Obioha, adding that he invited the parties to the dispute to his palace.

He said: “At the end of the day, Nwakwo issued a cheque in favour of Chika Obioha at the peace meeting. I was, therefore, baffled to read in some newspapers (not Vanguard) that I conspired with four others to kidnap the citizen.”

The royal father, who is the Chairman, Ideato North local government area chapter of Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, also expressed worry that his accusers were not conversant with the traditional demands of Arondizuogu in particular and Ideato North in general.
