Kidnappers abduct town union executives in Imo

Owerri – Kidnappers have abducted four members of Amaigbo Town Union during their meeting on Saturday in Amaigbo, headquarters of Nwangele Local Government Area of Imo.

The abducted persons are the union’s President-General, Mr Kenneth Eso; the First Vice-President, retired Maj. Dan Azubuike; the Second Vice-President, Mr Chukwudi Onwu, and the Treasurer, Mr Okey Anyiam.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) gathered that the meeting was convened to discuss the modalities for the burial of the late traditional ruler of the community, Eze Wilfred Nwosu.

An eyewitness told NAN that the abductors arrived at the venue of the meeting and demanded to see the union’s president-general.

“They shot into the air before taking away their victims into their vehicles,” the man, who preferred anonymity, said.

He said that the whereabouts of the victims had yet to be ascertained.

NAN, however, learnt that a report about the kidnap had been lodged at the Amaigbo Police Station.

When contacted, Mr Linus Nwaiwu, the Police Public Relations Officer in Imo, said that he was not aware of the incident.
