Maiduguri – The Borno Police Command has said that it shot three suspected robbers along Banki Highway in Bama Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar, the Commissioner of Police disclosed this to newsmen in Maiduguri on Thursday.

Abubakar said that a police patrol team had been alerted of the bandits’ operation in the area and had wasted no time mobilising the men of Operation Black Scorpion to the scene.

He said that an exchange of fire had ensued between the police and the suspected robbers.

“The police patrol team triumphed over the syndicate of dangerous robbery suspects along Banki Highway, which links Nigeria to Cameroon Republic.

“The bandits had blocked the main road leading to the commercial city of Banki on Tuesday night.

“They met their waterloo when the command patrol team of Black Scorpion, which collaborated with the team of conventional policemen stationed in Banki town, engaged them in a gun-fight,” he said.

The commissioner said that three of the suspected robbers were shot dead in the course of the gun duel between them and the police.

“Three AK 47 rifles, one double barrel automatic gun, and 83 live ammunition were recovered at the end of the operation,” he said.

According to him, the corpses of the suspected robbers have been deposited at a public mortuary for autopsy.

He further said that the police had also arrested a suspected robber named Garba Musa, in Magumeri, Magumeri Local Government Area of the state.

“The police had engaged a group of seven suspected robbers in a cross-fire along Magumeri Highway as they were robbing innocent persons of their belongings.

“Six of them escaped with bullets wounds, while Musa was arrested alive.

“He was arrested, while in possession of an AK 47 rifle and 60 rounds of live ammunition.

“Others items recovered from him are two knives, GSM handsets, combat belts and tarpaulin bags,” Abubakar said.
