Lagos – Commonwealth Light Welterweight Boxing Champion, Olusegun Ajose, has said that the long delay he has to endure before securing the WBC elimination bout has not dampened his enthusiasm.

He said the elimination bout would enable him to realise his ambition of taking a shot at the title and possibly becoming a world champion in the light welterweight category.
The former British Light Welterweight champion currently in Lagos has been preparing for the fight in Algiers in three different venues — Lagos, London and Los Angeles.
“I commenced the first leg of my training in London, while the second leg continued in Los Angeles in the Whitewood training camp.
“In between my training sessions I had a warm up bout against Arek Malek in Liverpool to keep me in shape for the showdown with Chebah.
“I hope to arrive in Algeria four days to the fight to enable me to acclimatise,” he said.
The 1997 Eagle Belt Light Welterweight champion said that the fight was being staged in Algiers because he lacked corporate sponsors.
“Ideally I would have preferred the fight to take place in Nigeria in front of my people but lack of corporate sponsors has made this dream to be impossible.
“If I am able to overcome Chebah, I will eventually have a shot at the title currently held by Devon Alexander of the U.S.,” he said.
NAN reports that Ajose has yet to lose in 29 bouts since he featured at the 2000 Sydney Olymic Games. (NAN)
