Enyeama’s shirt under threat

By Fidelis Ebu
The continuous manning of the goal for the Super Eagles by Vincent Enyeama would soon face stiff opposition from the home-based talents.

Vincent Enyeama

Ike Shorunmu, the goalkeeper coach for the team expressed this in a chat after the team’s training last night that Enyeama’s domination of the goal post for the Eagles could be in strong contention should the talents being spotted dedicate themselves.

“Very soon Vincent Enyeama would need to work extra hard if he would hold on to the goalkeeper’s shirt. These new talents being discovered in this new weekly training strategy is exposing some good goalkeepers that could give Enyeama a good run for his money in the team”, Ike Shorunmu said.

He noted that the response from the players being invited to camp was encouraging as he expressed that only experience could give the number one shirt to Enyeama. Just 14 players were in training last night and 10 more were being expected.

“I’ve seen some good goalkeepers that are ready to outclass any known star, and Enyeama I know would not want to give up so soon”, he added.

Kwara United coach, Kadiri Ikhana, is willing to return to Kano Pillars, but an agreement could fall through on account of his asking price of a sign-on fee of 15 million naira (about $100,000) and a monthly salary of 600,000 naira.
A coaching vacancy has opened at Pillars after Salisu Yusuf departed for the Nigeria national team. Kano Pillars chairman, Tukur Babangida, said that they have interviewed Ikhana for the vacant head coach post, but his club do not have the budget to hire a high profile coach as Pillars get set for another assault at the CAF Champions league.
