NSE index capitalisation up by 1%

Activities on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE ) closed the week for Christmas holiday on marginal growth,  as the market indicators for measuring the performance indices, the market capitalisation and the All share index surged by 1.00 per cent each.

Specifically, the capitalisation appreciated by N78.23 billion to close at N7.887 trillion from N7.809 trillion at which it opened the week, while the index garnered 244.88 bases points to close at 24,689.16 points from 24,444.28 points.
Guinness Nigeria Plc led on the gainers’ table with a gain of N10.31 to close at N190.56 per share,  Julius Berger Nigeria Plc followed with a gain of N1.90 to close at N50.00 per share and  Nigeria Bottling Company  Plc garnered N1.82 to close at N38.30 per share.

Other share price gainers’ include: Conoil Plc N1.73, Cement Company of Northern Nigeria Plc N1.36, Okomu Oil Palm Plc N0.29, Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc N1.00, Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc N0.78, International Breweries Plc N0.74, African Petroleum Plc N0.70, among others.

On the other hand,  Skye Shelter Fund Plc led on the losers’ table, dropping by N3.00 to close at N97.00 per share, Dangote Cement Plc followed with a loss of N2.50 to close at N120.00 per share and PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc dropped by N1.14 to close at N31.45 per share

Other share price losers include: Total Nigeria Plc N0.61,  Ashaka Cement Plc N0.50, Costain  West Africa Plc N0.47, SCOA Nigeria Plc N0.43, Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc N0.39, UACN Property Development Company Plc N0.38, among others.

Transaction appreciated by 3.59 per cent, however, a turnover of 2.02 billion shares worth N12.43 billion in 24,713 deals was recorded in the week under review, in contrast to the previous week’s turnover of 1.95 billion shares valued at N20.78 billion  in 27,764 deals.

The Banking sub-sector was the most active on the sectorial analysis accounting for 48.12 per cent of the market turnover with 972.48 million shares valued at N6.94 billion in 13.54 deals.  Wema Bank Plc dominated activities in the sub-sector trading 99.11 million shares valued at N131.09 million in 233 deals, First Bank of Nigeria Plc followed with the exchange of 97.08 million shares valued at N1.28 billion in 3,352 deals and Bank PHB Plc recorded 95.03 million shares valued at N162.10 million in 292 deals.

The Insurance sub-sector followed on the sectorial analysis accounting for 20.40 per cent of the market turnover with 412.22 million shares valued at N235.88 million in 1,307 deals.  Guinea Insurance Plc boosted activities in the sub-sector trading 250.57 million shares valued at N125.28 million in eight deals, International Energy Insurance Plc followed with the exchange of 51.92 million shares valued at N25.96 million in 22 deals and Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc recorded 22.28 million shares valued at N11.20 million in 78 deals.
