Plateau United midfielder, Olayinka Olaniyi is on danger list after he was hit in the Christmas eve bomb blasts in Jos.
Olaniyi was one of the many commuters trapped in the explosions around the Tina Junction where he resides.
According to a statement by Plateau United, the player suffered extensive damage to his face and leg and was currently in the intensive care unit of the Bingham University Teaching Hospital Jos.
“The management of Plateau United FC regrettably uses this medium to inform the entire Nigerian sporting circle and the football family that Olayinka Olaniyi was badly affected by the December 24, 2010 multiple bomb blasts in some parts of the city,” the statement read.
Spokesman of the club, Monday Goteng, said that the club was informed of the incident on Christmas Day by the family of the player.
“We were informed of the unfortunate incident on Christmas Day by his family,” Goteng said.
Sports commissioner of Plateau State, Nankim Bagudu, as well as the club’s general manager, Bitrus Bewarang and other officials have paid visits to the affected player at the hospital.
