ACN will win Ogun, says Amosun, No space for you – Daniel

By Kolade Larewaju
ABEOKUTA – ACTION Congress of Nigeria [CAN] governorship aspirant; Senator Ibikunle Amosun Wednesday said that victory was sure for the party in the forthcoming 2011 elections in that state and that the declaration by Governor Olugbenga Daniel that CAN would not win any seat in the state was a farce.

Amosun spoke in Abeokuta at a media chat before the commencement of his state campaign spoke against the backdrop of statements credited to Governor Daniel to the effect that no amount of threat or pressure from the “Tinubu’s party will make our party to lose. They should not just come near this state. Ogun is no go area for them.”

But Amosun expressed confidence that his party the ACN would defeat the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] roundly in the forthcoming elections because the party had performed woefully in the last seven and a half years and that the people were tired of the Daniel administration.

He said “Ogun people have never had it so bad. Enough is enough. Ogun is in a comatose where the roads are bad, no water and everything has been destroyed by this government. We cannot allow a Daniel in another form through his stogies to get into power again.

“Even Daniel knows he did not win the 2007 elections; the elections were badly rigged and all we have to do is protect our votes and I can assure you we will protect our votes. We will not introduce violence but we will resist them because we want to change a bad government”

Describing the ACN as progressive, he said he did not join the party earlier to contest the 2007 elections under its banner because the people in the party then were rabidly oppose to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and that he would not want to have a fight with him.

He said “I can conveniently tell you that ACN is the progressive party. When I was in the PDP, because of my progressive tendencies, there were a lot of problems. I should have been in ACN when I left the PDP but the personalities in ACN then were at loggerheads with Obasanjo and I had a covenant not to go with anti-Obasanjo forces”

Governor Daniel had while addressing a rally at the Itawade square in Ijebu-Ife, during his official tour of Ijebu East Local Government on Tuesday contended that there was no way for the Action Congress of Nigeria in the state, saying that the state before 2003 under the Alliance for Democracy (AD) was not well managed.

“Our party is a great party. In Ogun State, in the last election, we had 100 per cent victory and by the grace of God we shall repeat the same feat in the coming elections.

“Before, we took over from the Alliance for Democracy in 2003; we knew how the state was. Ogun between 2003 and now is a different story. Our administration in the last seven and half years has brought about tremendous development. This success story will definitely work for us in the coming elections.

“I want to state here categorically that no amount of threat or pressure from the Tinubu’s party will make our party to lose. They should not just come near this state. Ogun is no go area for them.”
